Best trainee materials tester for plastics technology in Lower Saxony in 2023 comes from Röchling

IHK award testifies to the outstanding quality of training at the site

August 2019 marked the start of a new chapter in Simon Robben's life. After graduating from high school, he decided to train as a materials tester specializing in plastics technology at Röchling in Haren. A good decision, because in November he was recognized by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) of Lower Saxony as the best trainee in his field.

Graduation with a grade of "very good"

"I'm delighted with the good degree and the award. But I didn't expect it," explains Simon Robben. He completed his apprenticeship at the beginning of the year with a grade of "very good". Back in October, the 23-year-old was named the best materials tester for plastics technology in the Osnabrück-Emsland-Grafschaft Bentheim district of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce. This was followed in November by the award ceremony at state level in Papenburg, Germany.

Clear decision for an apprenticeship

Simon Robben quickly decided that he wanted to start an apprenticeship after leaving school. "I've always enjoyed practical work, which is why I opted for an apprenticeship after leaving school. I already knew Röchling through internships and visits with the school, so it quickly became clear to me where I would apply," he says. He was already interested in natural sciences at school. "I really enjoy the work, especially because the job is so varied. With the wide range of test methods and products, it never gets boring. We also have a great team who are always on hand to answer my questions and have supported me throughout my apprenticeship," says Simon Robben.

Modern test laboratory at the Haren site

More than 400 different test procedures can be carried out in the in-house laboratory at the site. "Our materials testing is essential for ensuring the quality of our products. This includes the modern equipment we work with on the one hand and the expertise of our employees on the other," reports Torsten Ströer, Master Materials Tester. "That's why we attach great importance to sound and good training for our junior staff." Together with Andreas Mäsker, also a master craftsman in materials testing, he trains materials testers for plastics technology. "We are delighted that their good performance was recognized in such a festive setting."

Permanent contract already in the bag

Simon Robben's future has already been decided - he will remain at Röchling in Haren. No longer as an apprentice, but as one of the best materials testers in Lower Saxony.
