Construction of larger and higher-capacity transformers

Berlin – For the first time, at the CWIEME 2015, Röchling will present platforms for oil-filled high-voltage transformers made of the insulation material Trafoboard® HD-PH in new dimensions of 3,150 x 3,150 mm. The new dimensions of the phenol-glued premium material permit the construction of even larger and thus higher-capacity transformers.

After Röchling's first introduction of Trafoboard® HD-PH at the CWIEME 2010, the insulation material quickly became established on the market. Notable manufacturers of oil-filled high-voltage transformers rely on insulating components made of the high-quality laminated pressboard. The new dimensions allow Röchling to meet the demands of many manufacturers for large components.

Trafoboard® HD-PH

Trafoboard® HD-PH combines excellent electrical and mechanical features with high chemical purity and narrow tolerance ranges. Compared with polyester and casein-glued insulation materials also available on the market the phenol-resin-glued Trafoboard® HD-PH offers transformer manufacturers significant advantages. Compared with casein, Trafoboard® HD-PH has a higher mechanical stability and improved drying characteristics. Unlike polyester-glued laminated pressboard, this material does not release styrene during processing.

For the development of this material, Röchling cooperated closely with the University of Applied Sciences Osnabrück. Trafoboard® HD-PH consists of highly densified pressboard layers made of pure cellulose according to IEC 60641, which are bonded permanently by means of phenolic glue according to IEC 60763 type LB 3.1A.2. For this glueing technology, Röchling has practically one hundred years’ experience due to the laminated densified wood Lignostone®, which is also used as insulation material in high-voltage transformers.

An expanded product range

With these new dimensions, Röchling expands its product range of large construction and insulation components for use in oil-filled power transformers. Röchling has an exceptional know-how in the production of composites. For nearly a century the plastics processor has produced the high-performance materials Lignostone® Transformerwood® and manufactured semi-finished goods and machined components according to customer drawings, such as pressure rings, pressure beams, shield end rings, shield rings and fasteners. With Trafoboard® HD-PH Röchling has been offering an insulation material made of high-quality laminated pressboard for the most stringent requirements regarding electrical characteristics since 2010.

At the CWIEME 2015 in Berlin, Röchling will present its extensive range of insulation and construction materials for oil-filled high-voltage transformers to the international expert visitors.
