Application Examples

ROV components

Remote Offshore Vehicles (ROVs) are continuous being designed to operate in ever increasing depths. To aid this, we supply numerous corrosion resistant, key components used to assemble an ROV. This includes the naturally buoyant Polystone® P and Polystone® D used for the side frames. While electronics boxes made from Sustarin® C have replaced metallic components, thanks to the materials lower weight and corrosion resistance. With the same corrosion resistance, low weight and excellent impact resistance leading to the use of Sustamid® 6G for thruster nozzles and ROV buckets.

Moulding drum for bread rolls

Röchling materials contribute to the efficiency of processes in the industrial production of bread rolls: made of Sustarin® C, the chamber drum rotates in the opposite direction of the moulding drum, thereby forming the dough pieces.

Rollers

Thanks to their outstanding abrasion resistance, high mechanical strength and toughness, Sustamid® 6G rollers machined to close tolerances wear less than steel, require little maintenance and so offer a very long service life.

Diablo rollers

During offshore pipe installation, metallic diablo rollers can lead to potential damage to the corrosion resistant coatings of pipelines. To help mitigate this, switch from metallic diablo rollers to Sustamid® 6G with the increased ductility of the engineering plastic limiting potential pipeline damage. Sustamid® 6G has additional benefits including a low coefficient of friction and excellent wear resistance as well as excellent impact resistance. Whilst also offering significant weight advantages compared to steel (approx. 1/7th the weight). Materials suitable for ATEX environments as well as self-lubricating forumalations are also possible.

Castors

Castors -Castors made of our materials Sustamid® 6G and Lamigamid® machined within tight tolerances are subject to less wear than steel because of their excellent abrasion resistance and high mechanical strength and toughness, are low-maintenance and thus make for a very long servicelife. We would be happy to advise and support you in selecting materials, designing and performing stress computations.

Labyrinth seals

Labyrinth seals of Sustamid® 6G for the rotor bearing are resilient against lubricants, provide high dimensions stability and thus permit reliable minimisation of the lubrication loss in the long term.

Sheaves & Sheave segments

Installation & retrieval of equipment from subsea environments leads to high demands placed on the metallic or synthetic cables. To help mitigate this, switch from metallic sheaves to Sustamid® 6G, as our range of Sustamid® materials can lead to an increase in the life of your cables. This is due to the low coefficients of friction and excellent wear resistance of Sustamid® materials, further enhanced by the excellent impact resistance, and significant weight reduction compared to steel (approximately 1/7th the weight). Materials available include grades suitable for ATEX environments as well as self-lubricating formulations.

Sliding element for the jib

Sliding elements made of lubricant enriched cast polyamides make for a smooth extension motion of telescopic crane booms and equipment booms. They provide high strength and rigidity and facilitate extension with exceptionally good sliding properties. This material group includes our PA 6G materials Sustamid® 6G, Sustaglide®, Lamigamid® 319 and Lamigamid® 318.
