  • This will further increase the significance of sustainability at the company
  • Further expansion of plastic recycling capacity

Mannheim, 2 June 2022 | In order to further strengthen its sustainability activities, the Röchling Group has defined the topic as one of its key strategic areas for the future. Therefore, the Mannheim-based plastics processing company has established the “Röchling Board Sustainability” under the leadership of Franz Lübbers, CEO of Röchling Industrial. It deals with the key questions regarding sustainability and discusses the Executive Board’s strategic decisions in advance to accelerate concrete implementation steps.

One of the most important topics is the expansion of the sustainable product portfolio. At K 2022, the international trade fair for plastics, rubber, plastics processing, and plastics manufacturing, which will be held in Düsseldorf from 19 to 26 October 2022, Röchling will present two new product families for this purpose: Röchling-BioBoom® for bioplastics and Röchling-ReLoop® for recyclates. Röchling Automotive already has interesting orders for Röchling-BioBoom®, for example for an active grille shutter and for an engine design cover for a new hydrogen vehicle.

The Röchling Group is also increasing speed regarding certifications: Six Röchling Industrial locations and Röchling Medical Neuhaus have already been certified according to the international sustainability standard ISCC PLUS. Further locations are to follow. As one of the largest plastics processing companies in the world, the company is therefore promoting the use of bio-based raw materials in the industry. “With this certification, we are further expanding our range of bio-based materials. We are working hard to become one of the leading suppliers of bioplastics and recycling materials by 2035,” Lübbers says.

In March last year, the Industrial Division opened a plant to close the materials loop between Röchling and its customers in Geeste-Dalum in the German state of Lower Saxony. “We also intend to establish a similar plant for our site in Lahnstein,” says Lübbers.

Alongside these activities, the Röchling Group is also driving its activities regarding the use of renewable energy and improving energy efficiency. Röchling Automotive, for example, has commissioned a photovoltaic system in Kunshan, China. Photovoltaic systems have also commenced operations at the Röchling Industrial sites in Haren/Germany and Geeste-Dalum. In this way, and with energy efficiency measures, the Röchling Group intends to continuously reduce its ecological footprint.
