Lahnstein – Röchling Sustaplast KG is the first manufacturer in the world to offer polyamide 46 calendered sheets in thicknesses of 1 – 10 millimeters. With a service temperature range from -40° to +135° Centigrade and a short-term temperature of +200° Centigrade, the material marketed under the brand name SUSTAMID closes the gap between engineering plastics and high-performance plastics.
SUSTAMID 46 is highly crystalline which results in high mechanical stability. It has a similar range of properties as, for example, polyamide 6 or 66. With its tribological and chemical properties, particularly the resistance to greases and oils, SUSTAMID 46 offers technical and economic benefits, for example, for applications in the automotive or electronic industries. Typical fields of application at high temperatures are seals and mechanical applications, such as rollers, slide bearings, gear wheels or cam disks.
As the one and only manufacturer at present, Röchling Sustaplast masters the extremely difficult extrusion process of the high-performance plastic based on the DSM raw material Stanyl®. The great challenge involved in processing this material is the high crystallization velocity, leading to the material hardening fast when cooling.
