The slices of bread have to be vertical

How 'breakwaters' made from plastic are simplifying the production of bread

Actually, the matter is clear: Slices of toast always lie flat on your plate. And yet during their industrial production, this position isn't what's wanted. During their automated packaging in the plastic bread bags, the slices have to be vertical. And so that they don't fall over, one customer is using 'breakwaters' made from the high-performance material SUSTARIN® C FG in the construction of packaging plants.

The freshly baked and cut bread is sent to the packaging plant on a conveyor belt. So that the slices don't fall over due to the movement of the conveyor, from a distance of a few centimetres, numerous thin blades made from SUSTARIN® C FG project into the conveyor belt from the left and right. Thanks to the flexibility of the material, the bread is able to push the blades aside easily. At the same time, the blades also ensure that the slices stay standing in a vertical position throughout the conveying process. This enables the packaging machine to bag the bread without any problems.

Thanks to the food conformity of SUSTARIN® C FG according to EU regulations 1035/2004, 10/2011 and 2023/2006/EC, its ideal combination of rigidity and mechanical resilience, as well as its resistance to regular cleaning products, the material is ideally suited to this application and enables a smooth and problem-free production process. The blades are made from calendared SUSTARIN® C FG films in a thickness range of 0.3 to 0.8 mm.

Staying standing: Thanks to the blades made from SUSTARIN® C FG, the first slices of bread don't fall over when the conveyor stops
