POM (polyoxymethylene, also known as polyacetal or acetal) is a semi-crystalline, thermoplastic material, which is characterised by its good mechanical properties, high dimensional stability and excellent sliding and wear behaviour. Due to their properties, POM plastics are used as design materials in a wide range of applications of demanding operating conditions. POM is subdivided into POM homopolymers (POM-H) and POM copolymers (POM-C). POM-C has better chemical resistance (e.g. to hot water), while POM-H is characterised by a slightly higher strength.
